General Brown Issues Consumer Alert Warning Homeowners of Property
Tax Fraud
As property values continue to
decline across the state, companies are sending deceptive mailers to
homeowners offering help in reducing property tax assessments, if the
homeowner pays the company hundreds of dollars in fees. The companies
use official-sounding names such as “Tax Adjusters,” “Tax
Reassessment” or “Tax Review” to make victims believe the
company is a government agency.
DON'T BE FOOLED- government agencies don't charge for
tax reassessment, it's free. If your property has declined in value
and you think your property tax is incorrect, you can request a review
of your property from your local tax assessor.
